Mangaluru : The Toll Gate Virodhi Horata Samithi’s Janagraha meeting, organised in front of Surathkal Toll Gate, seeking the closure of Surathkal Toll Gate and toll collection from local vehicles, drew good response from public on Thursday.
The participants in the meeting unanimously adopted a resolution to protest against the toll plaza by not paying toll from March 1.
Samithi convener Muneer Katipalla, addressing the activists, said that the toll plaza, being allowed to operate despite closure orders, issued a year ago, reflects the failure of MP Nalin Kumar Kateel. Had the MLAs and MPs responded sincerely, the commuters would have been prevented from taking to streets in order to seek exemption from paying toll, he said.
Former MLAs Vijay Kumar Shetty and Abhaychandra Jain were present in the meeting.
A meeting was convened near the DC’s office gate on Thursday to mount pressure on the officials to cancel the Surathkal Toll Gate. Activist Yathish Baikampady later submitted a memorandum to the toll gate.
