Mangaluru : Deputy Commissioner Dr K V Rajendra said, there will be no cultural programmes as usual during the district level Independence Day celebrations this year at Nehru Maidan.

Addressing a meeting held on August 5 Wednesday to discuss the arrangements being made for the celebration,. the DC said all measures would be taken to ensure there is no large gathering during the celebration. He further said all Covid-19 related guidelines like wearing masks and maintaining social distancing would be ensured during the celebrations.

He also asked members of the public not to arrange big functions with large gatherings. The DC said the programme being held at Nehru Maidan will be telecast live through social websites and also beamed through digital screen that will be put up at a prominent place in the city.

The administration will be honouring Covid warriors including doctors, ASHA workers, sanitation workers, civic workers and police personnel during the Independence Day celebrations this year, he added.
