Moodabidre: The five-day Inter-university national sports contests orgainsed by Alva’s and RG university, Bangalore jointly, ended on Dec 21 here at Swaraj Maian, with Punjab University’s (Patiala) sturdy sportsmen securing 9 golds (1st), 4 silvers (2nd) and 2 bronze medals (3rd) to bag ‘overall’ championship in the 72nd All India Inter-University athletics competitions held on West Coast of Karnataka for the first time.

MG University of Kottaym secured 4 golds, 4 silvers and 3 bronze medals to be declared ‘Runners-up’ in second position.

Mangalore University had 3 golds, 1 silver and 1 bronze in the events, for women. MU’s  M.R. Poovamma was adjudged top athlete among women competitors.

It was an extra ordinary even of Youth prowess at the Indian Universities level and major Youth sports Championships held in Dakshina Kannada district for long decades, under national attention.
