Udupi: Gita Jayanti, an annual event organised by International Gita Forum, Singapore was held on October 22 at Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple in Singapore. Javed Ashraf, High Commissioner of India to Singapore was the key note speaker and Sugunendra Theertha Swamiji of Puttige Mutt on his first ever visit to the Lion City, Singapore addressed the gathering on the relevance of Bhagavad Gita in today’s life and Bhagavad Gita as human psychology.
Javed Ashraf in his keynote address spoke about Bhagavad Gita and audience was spell bound with his knowledge on Bhagavad Gita. Sugunendra Theertha Swamiji in his address on the first subject- relevance of Gita in today’s life, talked about the hectic material life of today and how Lord Krishna’s advice to Arjuna in the form of therapy conditioning him to the need for the war is still valid in today’s context.
Afternoon session continued on the second topic of the day- Bhagavad Gita as Human Psychology. The seer explained as to why the current generation has no respect for the elders, the difference in upbringing of earlier generations where children were never praised in front of them even though they achieved excellence in studies, others and the current generation where the child is treated as the centre of the parents life and every achievement of the child is amplified to an extent that the child starts developing ego at an early age.
