Puttur : A suo moto case was registered under section 149 of Indian Penal Code on seven people at Puttur police station limits objecting to take a group of students in an auto rickshaw at Renja rickshaw stand here on Wednesday.

Some boys and girl students were arrived at Mangaluru to attend Eid party at the house of their colleague Abdul Shamir. The group had gotten down at the auto stand, when an auto rickshaw driver, identified as Rukma objected to take them their location.

A crowd gathered soon after at the spot and they started hurling abuses at the girls. They even assaulted one of the boys accompanying the girls. The boy was taken to a hospital for treatment.

The policemen rushed to the spot after they received an alert and prevented an ugly situation from escalating on the occasion of Bakrid at Renja rickshaw stand .

Police detained Rukma, Sathish, Sheshappa, Ganesh, Kunji, Duggappa and Purushottam for assaulting the boy and trying to disturb the harmony among two communities.
