Mumbai : Mumbai Police cyber cell and crime branch today jointly arrested 14 persons including two professors, two lab assistants, five former university students and five Class IV staff of the university, for leaking out engineering question papers.

Joint Commissioner of Police Himanshu Roy said, cash, cellphones and some hard disks have been seized and more arrests were imminent.

On May 18, Maths-II question paper was leaked, followed by the leak of Physics-II paper. On May 26, the question paper on basic electrical and electronic engineering was leaked.

The question papers were sold by some students who had bought the leaked question papers from the gang at  higher  rates to others.

The modus operandi was simple: In the first group, two professors in connivance with five of their former students paid a female paper setter in Karjat locality and got the Basic electrical and electronic engineering paper leaked.

The second group, consisting of five peons and two lab assistants, took out copies of Maths-II and Physics-II question paper and leaked it to students.

The leaked question paper were sold for Rs 5,000 to Rs 20,000, while some students who bought these for lower rates, made out copies and sold them to others at higher rates.

A Mumbai court today sent all the 14 accused to police custody till June 8.

Joint CP Himanshu Roy said, the gang openly used the social networking sites to keep in touch with the gang.
