Karkala  :  Karkala TMC has its first Muslim woman President. Rahmath of the Congress, representing Kabettu ward was elected  the President at the election held on September 16, Monday. Shashikala Rane of the BJP was lucky to be the vice president as she is the only SC candidate  elected this time. The post was reserved for a SC candidate.

The  23 member Karkala TMC has 12 Congress and 11 BJP members. The Congress candidate for the post of president got 13 votes including that of Udupi MP Jayaprakash Hegde while BJP candidate  for the post Lalitha got 12 votes including that of local MLA Sunil Kumar.
