Karnataka : Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi will campaign for the party’s candidates in the State from April 4.
Chairperson of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee campaign committee Veeranna Mattikatti told presspersons here on Friday that Mr. Rahul Gandhi would campaign in Mangalore and Bellary on April 4.
“The dates on which Ms. Sonia Gandhi and Dr. Manmohan Singh will arrive are yet to be finalised,” he said.
The party is trying to involve all senior leaders in election campaigning with a view to winning at least 22 seats in the State. KPCC chief G. Parameshwara and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah have started electioneering. The former External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna will start canvassing on April 2.
“We have requested Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad to campaign in the State,” Mr. Mattikatti said.
Mr. Krishna, who will launch his tour in Bangalore, will cover almost all constituencies till April 15. He will campaign for three days in Bangalore and two days in Mandya.
Replying to queries, Mr. Mattikatti said that the campaigning in Mandya was smooth. “Following a message from Minister for Housing M.H. Ambareesh that the workers should ensure party candidate Ramya’s victory, all our party functionaries are working unitedly,” he said.
