Puttur : State forest minister and district in-charge minister Ramanatha Rai has directed SP Abhishek Goel to suspend two constables of Sampya police station who had allegedly thrashed a lorry driver at Kumbra on September 14, Saturday.

Speaking to reporters here, Rai said such incidences cannot be tolerated and added he has asked the SP to suspend the constables  Dayananda and Harish who had beaten up lorry driver Mohammad Nazir.

 He said such acts will bring bad name to the department and urged people harassed by the police to contact him directly.

MLA Shakuntala Shetty who was also present urged for a thorough probe into the case and also to transfer police officials who remain posted at one particular place for long.
