New Delhi: The highlights of new Railway Budget presented in the Lok Sabha are
There are no increases in freight and passenger travel fares in 2011-12 budget of Mamata Bannerjee.
The investment in Railways is the highest at Rs.57,630 crores. 68 new trains will run this year in India. 33 train services will be extended from present destinations to new ones.
50% concession in fares is available twice a year to media persons and their families. Senior citizens can claim 40% rebates in fares.
Prime Minister Manamohan Singh has lauded Mamata’s effort in making a popular budget with its emphasis on social responsibility, and the human face.
Earnings for 2010-11 will exceed Rs.1 lac crore. Another 10,000 crores will be raised through Bonds.
Pradhan Mantri Rail Vikas Yojna will be launched. The department will set up a sports cadre soon.
Senior citizens’ category age reduced to 58 now. All India Security Helpline is set up. Safety gets top most priority in running the trains.
