New Delhi: For Dinesh Trivedi, a Trinamool Congress MP, it is a big day today, on March 14, because he as Railways minister in Central UPA Government, has to present Railways budget, a head of general budget by Finance minister Pranab M., and the states budgeting would only follow later, as in Karnataka, on March 21, next week. Railway routes are in the bargain.
There are speculations over a passenger rate hike and large-scale privatisation, of a huge burden that Indian Railways is, is a tight money situation, after Laloo P. Yadav and Mamata’ Didi’ Banerjee eras in management.
Dinesh refused a peek into his budget, by popping eyes of mediamen on Tuesday, only to present a low-key appearance as Railway samrat.
He shared jokes with eager journalists, saying his budget was for them and by them, as if they had advised him.
But Dinesh is under pressure, to meet Bengal needs, oncoming General elections(2014) and his own dwindling cash reserves, which Laloo did not rob him of.
The Planning Commission wanted him to strengthen his financial situation now.
Two committees appointed by him to advise him, have told him to rationalize the passenger fares, and do large-scale privatisation.
Media has fears that Mamata’s considerations may prevail over Dinesh Trivedi, though political in Substance.
Dinesh is a captive minister seeking freedom.
