When the passengers from Mumbai and Goa (Margao) were asked to board buses to reach Surathkal, and then travel by train to Mangalore on Tuesday (June 29), they were upset. Boulders falling on tracks and landslides near Thokoor had prevented Konkan Railway Journey on Sunday due to heavy rains on the entire west coast of Karnataka, Goa and Maharashtra. Padil – Thokur stretch was a mess that had to be cleared quickly to enable trains to run on a single track. Landslides continued on 4th successive day.
Passengers from North India reached Mangalore 2 days late! Frustrated travellers gheraoed (encircled) the Mangalore SM for long delays and lots of inconvenience. Dozens of buses were hired by Railways to move passengers between Surathkal and Mangalore in the last 3 days. The DKDC was not in the picture.
