Mangaluru: Rain was witnessed at various places in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts during the evening hours of Wednesday. Strong winds at Belthangady have caused damage to many farms.
Strong winds in Hebri uprooted a tree which crashed causing damage to two parked vehicles. The vehicles were parked at a parking bay created by the Gram Panchayath on the Government Primary School road in Hebri. Since it was market day, goods were kept in an auto rickshaw. A car was parked nearby. The rolling tree caused damage to two vehicles. For a short time, traffic movement came to a standstill. Localities removed the fallen tree.
Around 2,000 arecanut trees suffered damage due to heavy rains and strong winds at Kadaba. Heavy rains with strong winds covered Kadirudyavar and surrounding areas in Belthangady. Rubber and Banana crop were damaged. There was rain also at Ujire, Dharmasthala and Mundaje. Strong winds uprooted a tree on to a road near Kalmanja due to which the traffic was thrown into a chaos. Later, the localities removed the tree and helped in normalizing the traffic.
There was medium rain at Bellare and Aivernadi. Rain was also observed at Tekkatte, Bhramavar, Udupi, Koteshwara, Kumbhashi, Kollur, Jadkal, Muduru, Vandse, Aiduru and Shirva.
