Mangalore: Several parts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts have been experiencing moderate rainfall since the evening of June 4, Monday indicating the onset of monsoons into the district.
Met department sources have said that rains will continue to lash the coastal districts of DK and Udupi for the next two days and there were possibilities of strong wind and rains accompanied by thunder and lightning.
Mangalore city, Suratkal, Kinnigoli, Ullal, Belthangady and Subrahamanya experienced rainfall and in Ullal and Malpe the sea has turned quite rough. Bantwal witnessed heavy rain falls and disruption in power supply.
Even several places in Udupi district including Udupi town, Karkala, Hebri and other places experienced heavy rains providing the much needed respite to the people who were suffering due to water scarcity as well as acute heat conditions.
Meanwhile, a senior official of the met department has said the onset of monsoons will be declared only on the basis of the rains which the area experiences in the next 48 hours.
Agricultural activities are likely to get momentum with the arrival of the rain.
