Mangalore: It was a 2- minute soft rainfall past midnight on Thursday in Bunder areas in early morning hours, followed by a break, and a 15-minite steady rains, with a break at again and there regular morning showers during market hours and office work starting period upto 11AM, when roads got wet, pools of muddy water stood on soft lanes and streets, to be sprayed by passing vehicles on unwary “umbrella less” pedestrians, savowring cool raindrops falling from the sky.
The rain relived the heat of summer season, Baisakhi. There was less water in Thumbe vented dam on Wednesday, not anymore.
MRPL went to court for its share of water being deprived by DC Dr. N.S.C. Gowda, at Sarapady vented dam but a single judge at the KHC was merciful to MRPL on April 25 to draw 2.5 MGD of water (a day) instead of a measly 0.5 MGD bestowed by DK administration, in view of rains all over Netravathi river.
MRPL pointed out that Thumbe had enough water to feed Mangalore for 200 days, not just for my month!
Obviously, when people in power were fighting each other and empty pots at the dry taps in city areas piled up over one another and their queue lengthened around Akshaya Tritheeya on April 24, rain gods opened up the skies to let water fall heavily upon earth.
Even Bangalore city was totally drenched and a cricket game called off there on April 25.
Here in Mangalore, we are getting water from MCC even when pipes get broken on way in some places.
