Udupi: With the arrival of monsoon in full gust, agricultural activities have picked up in the district. Farmers are seen busy in their farms with smiles writ large on their face.
Some farmers say agricultural works have delayed this year due to delay in the arrival of monsoons. In Udupi district about 4.70 lakh hectare area is under cultivation. Agricultural officials say farmers can avail subsidy if they complete sowing on time and are also entitled for benefits under Swarna Bhoomi Yojana.
Agriculture Department officials also inform that fertilizers and seeds have been supplied on time and there should not be any problem. Rural areas are seeing a hectic life these days. With incessant rains there is also an increased demand for the traditional rain coat, known as ‘Korambu’ in local dialect. Even the basket ‘Pudayi’ is much in demand.
