Bangalore: State CM Yeddyurappa informed people today that he would have discussions with scholars and experts to suggest new names to the regions known as Hyderabad Karnataka, Bombay Karnataka and Madras Karnataka which are parts of the present state. He was speaking at the Kannada Rajyotsava celebrations on Monday morning organised by Public Instruction (Education) deptt. He dwelt on the need to drop the present references to parts of Karnataka, with a view to present secessionist tendencies, if any, arising in those areas.
Certain new names have been suggested already. Yet a meeting of elder writers, thinkers and intellectual lights will be called to decide the issue, CM stated. He stressed on younger generations making full use of state language and environment.
He indicated that a World Kannada Conference would be arranged in Belgaum. A larger grant has been provided to Kannada / Culture department to pursue these goals in 2010-11. He insisted on primary education being conducted only in Kannada in the state.
