Mangaluru: As a sign of communal brotherhood ‘rakhi’s’ were tied to Hindu brothers by Christian women at Infant Jesus Shrine, Bikarnakatte on Thursday.
Rashtriya Swayam Seva Sangh, Karnataka Pranthia Saha Sanchalak Dr P Vaman Shenoy and Shrine Director Fr Elias D’Souza together began the celebration of Raksha Bandhan. The event witnessed communal harmony and Hindu-Christian unity.
Speaking on the occasion Dr Vaman Shenoy said that Raksha Bandhan is a festival of brotherhood. This festival emphasizes on the unity irrespective of any community and religion.
“We thank the shrine authorities for organizing such a good programme. We should stay together and work together against the anti-social activities,” he said.
Fr Elias said “Raksha Bandhan is not restricted to any community or religion. This preogramme will send a message of communal harmony to the society. I insist all the churches to hold such programme.”
