Mangalore : A protest was staged by the Rastriya Vidhyarthi Poshakara Vedike  in front of the DC office in Mangalore on June 25, Tuesday to condemn the brutal gang rape of a medical student in Manipal.

Speaking on the occasion, Vireshwar Bhat, advisor of the Vedike said the incident has brought shame on the two districts, particularly as it has taken place in an educational hub. The Vedike demanded that the rapists be arrested at the earliest and a transparent probe be undertaken. It also demanded dress code of salwar kameez for primary and high school students.

 He said the Vedike would stage a protest throughout the state if such incidents recurred. Vishwanath, Secretary of the Vedike, and others members took part in the protest.
