Mangalore : First it was Ullal as usual, that fell a prey to seasonal torrential rains with boisterous sea waves beating on the backs of fishermen’s houses and eroding the roads and soil on which trees and poor dwellings stand.
Then in 15 days’ time it is Netravathi river that is swelling around Bantwal and Mangalore taluks on way to the rising sea levels at Alive Kodi or Bengre. The bus route from Kankanady to Puttur is affected by heavy rains. Places like Adyar, Kannur, Olachil have became unsafe for those who normally reside there, in view of wet and rough weather, rising river levels, water with mud entering mud houses and small brick factories or transport yards on way, and general inundation of fields, crops and low-lying areas from Mangalore to BC Road and Puttur DK minister Krishna Palemar made an inspection of the devastated areas on Sunday last to assess damage. People have to be moved to safer areas.
