Mangalore : Rev. Fr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, Bishop of Mangalore installed the Relic of Holy Cross at Newly Built Chapel, Cordel Parish at Kulshekhar here on Sunday September 15,
The relic of Holy Cross, upon which Jesus Christ was crucified was ceremoniously placed at the newly-built Chapel besides the church building. The relic is the cross made out of a piece of cross on which Jesus was crucified and it was specially brought from Vatican. Cordel parish becomes the lone church in erstwhile Mangalore diocese to get this rare relic of biblical significance. The historical event also coincided the annual parish feast.
Bishop Fr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza of Mangalore diocese blessed the newly-built Chapel at Cordel parish and installed the relic of Holy Cross.
Bishop Fr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza said that Holy Cross is the symbol of triumph. It’s not disgrace but life. He also recalled the memory of church attack of 2008 in different parishes of Mangalore diocese and it was fifth anniversary of black day of that fateful day. The faith of the faithful was indeed strengthened owing to the incidence, because of trust in Holy Cross that is the symbol of triumph. He urged the faithful to spend a few quiet moments at the Chapel to get spiritual bliss from the relic of Holy Cross and also form Holy Sacrament.
Mangalore diocesan vicar general Monsignor Denis Moras Prabhu inaugurated the newly-built Chapel.
Bishop Dr Aloysius concelebrated the festal Holy Mass along with Cordel parish priest Fr Valerian Pinto, assistant parish priests Fr Roshan and Fr Vishal, and several clergies from different parishes of Mangalore diocese.
Bishop Dr Aloysius felicitated Fr Valerian Pinto who has transformed the parish in five-and-a-half-years as the parish priest of Cordel. He is truly the architect of modernity who strived to develop infrastructural facilities in making the parish a distinct in the entire Mangalore diocese. His predecessor Fr Valerian D’Souza spearheaded the modernity in keeping with changed times.
Bishop Dr Aloysius also felicitated the donors, sponsors and benefactors of parish developmental works, including the architect Anil Lobo of Akruti, civil engineer C J Lobo and contractor Walter Pinto on the same occasion.
