Mangaluru: Mangaluru City Corporation has applied to the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) to renew the licence of its slaughterhouse at Kudroli, according to Mohammed Nazir, Commissioner of the corporation.
The licence would expire this year. “We have paid fees to the board. Officials have inspected the abattoir,” he said and added that the renewal would be for five years.
Rajashekara Puranik, Senior Environment Officer, KSPCB, Mangaluru, said that the renewal proposal is now before the head office of the board. The Board of Mangaluru Smart City Ltd. in its meeting on Wednesday ratified the proposal to modernise the slaughterhouse at an estimated cost of ₹ 15 crore, Mr. Nazir said.
The board has now approved the grant of ₹ 15 crore for a modern abattoir. Now, a detailed project report (DPR) on the new project would have to be prepared. Once ready, it would be sent to the Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development and Finance Corporation (KUIDFC) for technical approval.
Later, it would be placed before the board for approval again, Mr. Nazir said.
