Mangaluru : The departments of Microbiology and Zoology, St. Agnes College( Autonomous), Mangalore jointly organized a lead lecture series, comprising of 4 guest lectures by leading professionals in the respective fields, for the students of Life Sciences, on 12 February, 2020 under the star college scheme, DBT, Govt. Of India, New Delhi.
The program was held in Conference hall, Sophia block. The program began at 9.30 am with a prayer song by the students of final year degree class, followed by the lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries .The dignitaries present for the inaugural program were Dr. Venkatesh Sanjeeva, Consultant Surgeon and Specialist in Breast Diseases ,Sr. Dr.Maria Roopa A.C, Joint Secretary, St. Agnes Institutions and Dr. Geetha Nazareth, Coordinator , Star College Scheme.
M.C. for the program ,Ms. Namitha Agnel from final year degree class, briefed the gathering on the schedule of the program on behalf of the organizers. Mrs Prajwal Rao, Head of the department of Microbiology welcomed the dignitaries and introduced the Keynote speaker Dr Venkatesh Sanjeeva to the audience.
Dr.Venkatesh Sanjeeva in his keynote address enlightened the audience on the topic “ Breast Diseases”, wherein he briefed the gathering on various diseases produced in breasts and how to differentiate them from breast cancer. He spoke in detail about various forms of breasts cancer, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of the same.
The other speakers for the day were Dr. Mamatha Ballal, Professor, Department of Microbiology,KMC, MAHE, Manipal , Dr. Bharat Prasad A.S., Professor, Department of Ageing Research School Of Life Sciences, MAHE, Manipal, Dr. Vidyashree Kamath, Gynaecologist, KMC, Mangalore and Dr. Prerna Hegde, Dietician, KSHEMA, K.S.Hegde Charitable Hospital, Mangalore.
Dr. Mamatha spoke on the topic “Microbiome”, Dr. Bharat enlightened the students on the topic “Careers in the field of Life Sciences”, Vidyashree Kamath, Gynaecologist, KMC, Mangalore spoke on the topic “Adolescent Health and Hygiene”and Dr . Prerna spoke on the topic “Significance of nutritional food in maintaining health”.
