New Delhi : Yet another Republic Day celebration is upon us since 1950. Tomorrow morning, lakhs of people throng the Vijay Chowk -India Gate areas, Besides Jan Path in New Delhi to witness the 62nd Republic Day’s highly encouraging national parade, with Indonesian President Yudhoyono as a chief guest. Pratibha Patil will ride a horse carriage from her Palace to India Gate where she takes the salute of Defence Forces, NCC and other contingents dressed for the occasion.
Over 20 bravery and award winning children will ride on elephants slowly moving on the top black descending from Rashtrapathi Bhavan to Jan Path. Severe cold waves have hit the North killing hundreds in the last several weeks, but the enthusiasm of people to witness the parade is undiminished. Strict vigilance is maintained against terror attacks, lawlessness and disorder.
The Republic Day celebrations are taking place amidst national crisis in Delhi and constitutional crisis in Karnataka with Governor and Chief Minister going at each other for prosecution/ouster/transfer. The parades, one hopes, do not get affected in these tussles either in Bangalore or in other cities of Karnataka. Likewise, Delhi is deep drowned in CWG scandals, for which Suresh Kalmadi and Bhanet have been axed from their positions on Monday. The Minister of Sports has been changed. More heads are likely to fall later on.
The Republic Day stands for the proclamation of people’s sovereignty in a democratic republic. The politicians in Delhi Bangalore have faced irksome situations to learn new lessons in dignity and decorum within and outside the legislatures.
Indian people are benevolent to rulers and but their goodness should not be misused.
