Mangalore : Congress leader B Janardhan Poojari has said a request would be made to the Congress Manifesto Implementation Committee headed by Defence Minister AK Antony to look into the problems of the arecanut growers due to crop disease and to ensure that their loans are waived off by the government.
Speaking to reporters on August 9, Friday at the District Congress office, Poojari said the arecanut growers were in hardship. He said the rule that requires the people to own a particular measurement of land for construction of houses would be scrapped. He at the same time said the Niddodi project was initiated by the former BJP government and that the Congress government was only going ahead with it.
Continuing Poojari assured to request the CM to drop the proposal.
He said the problems which the people face as well as the environmental consequences of the project should be taken cognizance of.
Congress leaders and corporators Deepak Poojari, Shashidhar Hegde, Lancelot Pinto, Naveen D’Souza and others were present.
