Mangalore: Quarry owner of Vitla at Ukkada, Abdul Azeez, who was practising the illegal form of bonded (Jeetha) system of labourers on his land, has secured a bail after he was arrested and produced before a court today. Azeez has been chastened by Law last night.
DC of DK, Subodh Yadav has sent a report to the state govt, against the quarry owner Azeez for the offence committed by the latter for holding labourers in bondage for long years.
30 ‘Jeetha’ workers were set free after DC and DK police raided the Vitla quarry and put Azeez behind bars. They released his bonded labourers on Friday. The labourers were rescued on Dec.1. There were 17 children, 11 men and 11 women in the lot.
The rescued workers have been recommended for rehabilitation, said AC Prabhulinga KK. on Saturday (Dec.4)
