Mangalore : Western Range IGP Pratap Reddy has informed that the 84 refugees who were recently rescued thereby foiling an attempt of human trafficking, have been entrusted to the custody of the Tamil Nadu police. Even the 13 arrested have been handed over to the TN police.
Most of those rescued were from Srilankan refugee camps in Madurai, Chennai, Pudukotai, Hosur and other places.The owner of the boat which was purchased by the accused has also been detailed and interrogated.
The IGP said of the 84 refugees, 48 are from Srilankan Tamils from refugee camps, while 8 are unregistered Lankan Tamils, there were 21 Indian Tamils, 4 from Kerala and three from Karnataka, he added.
