Mangalore : Reservation in jobs and educational institutions is not for charity but to achieve equality in society, said N Mahesh, State Convenor of Bahujan Samaj Party.
Speaking at a seminar on reservation in private sector, under the aegis of the Social Democratic Party of India, he said the liberalization, globalization and privatization policies aimed at depriving the backward classes of the benefits of reservation.
Continuing, he said the rapid progress in private sectors has however not benefitted the socially backward classes. He further said the reservation concept even existed in the past.
He accused that the Congress party which ruled the nation for decades together never gave any serious thought to reservation issue.
