Revenue DayMangaluru : The State government is considering direct recruitment of personnel to vacant posts in the Revenue Department, especially in the first and the second division assistant categories, said Revenue Minister Kagodu Thimmappa on Sunday.

Speaking at the ‘Revenue Day’, organised by the Karnataka State Revenue Department Employees’ Association’s Dakshina Kannada unit here, Mr. Thimmappa said that delays in appointments and promotions had affected the functioning of the department.

“I am also for the direct recruitment to posts of tahsildar instead of through the KPSC (the Karnataka Public Service Commission). But the Constitution does not permit it,” he said.

Mr. Thimmappa said there was dearth of qualified personnel for posts, namely Assistant Director Land Records and Deputy Director Land Records.

The Minister said filling up of vacant posts in the department was top priority for him. He said during his tenure there will be no delay under any circumstances in promoting personnel.

Earlier, the association submitted a memorandum to the Revenue Minister expressing the need to fill the vacant posts in the department and lessen the burden on the personnel who are working.

Among the demands of the association include not posting revenue department personnel at checkposts for preventing illegal transport of sand.

Minister for Forests, Environment and Ecology B. Ramanath Rai also spoke.

J.R. Lobo, Mangaluru South MLA, K. Abhayachandra Jain, Moodbidri MLA, and Deputy Commissioner K.G. Jagadeesha were present.
