Mangalore: Padi –Vellored, Mangalore in association with Child Right Trust, Bangalore organized a inter district level workshop on Children’s Free and Compulsory Education Act 2009 at ISD Hall, Nantoor on October 18, Tuesday.
Eshwar Kateel, president of Health and Education Standing Committee, Zilla Panchayath, Mangalore inaugurated the workshop.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Guest Asha Nayak, chairperson of Child Welfare Committee said that today after women the most harassed class is the children.
She also said that even though there is existence of JJAct, the outlook has changed now. The child welfare department lack support and co-ordination from all other department in providing compulsory education.
Children are seen appointed for household work in various apartments; hence the awareness must be created among the people on the right to children in the constitution. At present, the education is not provided to all the children below the age group of 14 years. Hence the awareness must be created among the children and parents through various seminars and camps.
Most of the time children drop out their schools and the teachers and mangaemnet do not provide the information to child committee and this is one of the reason for the lack of co-operation, she said.
Presiding over the event, SM Abubakker, secretary of SMDC said that people must not only think to provide education only to their children, but also must work to give education to the children pf whole society.
Renny D’Souza, delivered the introductory speech. Sumana welcomed and proposed vote of thanks on the occasion.
