Mangalore : A meeting held to discuss the pros and cons of the proposed Netravathi River Diversion Project in Mangalore on August 27, Tuesday, decided to urge the government to drop Netravathi River Diversion Project as well as the Ettinahole project. The meet held at NGO hall as organised by Nagarika Seva Trust and other organizations.
Dr NA Madhyastha, noted environmentalist, spoke on the drastic consequences of the project which will lead to loss of bio-diversity. The project will be ecologically disastrous, he said.
YB Ramakrishna, former chairman of Karnataka Biofuel Board spoke on the power crisis in the state and attributed the same to inefficient management. The governments are only trying to increase power generation capacity rather than look into the problems, he said.
He said that hydro electricity projects are invitation to disaster. He was also critical of hydro electric projects.
Somanath Nayak, President of Nagarika Seva Trust, Prof. Varadesh Hiregange, Director of MIC were also present.
