Bantwal: The authorities of AMR Power Project at Shamboor finally came round to accept their guilt, and offer compensation of Rs 1 Lakh to the families of 3 dead youths and 11 others who lost their lives in flash floods of Netravathi, due to water discharged unawares by AMR staff.
Hundreds of people joined in the protest against wanton killing of those dead by drowning in river waters.
Protestors demanded Rs 10 Lakh for each death. Some civic protection committees and 2 Zilla panchayat ex-member Tungappa Bangera led the fight.
DC of Dakshina Kannada district directed Mangalore AC Venkatesh to conduct enquiry. A week had passed since the drowning incidents, but local Tahsildar did not bother, the people complained.
AMR had a license valid only upto November end, but it was continuing its mischief as a Power project by letting out irregular waste water to river levels, they argued.
