Kumta: A state Transport service Bus from Dharmasthala met with and accident on Monday night(October10) in Kumta, when 7 passengers were killed and 40 more inured on NH 17(now 66) at Divagi.

The huge bus rolled over form the side of a bridge(on Aghanashini river) and plunged into a paddy field. It was going to Bagalkot. There were heavy rains and the bus must have skidded off the road in a hurry, near Harkade cross to bite the dust, onlookers said.

Six passengers were killed on the spot, whereas a child died in a hospital. The 40 injured persons are in Kumta Government Hospital under treatment. The bus carried 60 passengers in all.

Local people assisted the police to rescue travelers in a precarious condition. The Kumta police registered the case of road accident.
