Mangalore: The Roshni Nilaya school of social work at Kankanady in city, conducted on Friday a day’s seminar of regional student Emerging Issues concerning Women.
Student prepared essays and presented them on emerging trends of life among women, and consequent problems faced by them, in a modern society, such as harassment.
K. Anand of Manipal Media in his inaugural address, showed how women underwent changes in outlook during the present century in several nations of the world.
Women are as competent as men are, in developed countries, although there is discrimination in one form or the other, socially, economically, or politically.
In India, they are moving fast towards equality as the young country was becoming developed. He observed that ‘sati’, dowry, Devadasi, and marriage by horoscope or through elders, and such systems that insulted women, were ending by and large.
Indira Gandhi and Indra Nooyi, as also some others in banks, had shown their capabilities to achieve high ideals in any field by work.
DK-ZP chief K.T shailaja Bhat spoke on balancing roles at home and in office, for educated women. She lauded rural women in “self-help” groups.
