Mangalore : The Rotaract Club of Mangalore City observed the International Workers Day and felicitation ceremony to honour the senior workers at Hotel Woodlands Hall on May 1, Tuesday.
Speaking after inaugurating the event, Mayor Gulzar Banu said that the Rotaract Club is doing good work by identifying the workers and service rendered to the society and felicitating them. Further too the senior workers must be identified and honoured to encourage them.
The chief guests felicitated Anand Acharya who had been working as the paper boy, Prem Kumar Shetty and Ananth Phadke, waiter at Hotel Woodlands from past 35 years with shawl, fruit bowl, memento and a citation.
Another Chief Guest P B Harish Rai, president of Dakshina Kannada Working Journalists Union said that today it is difficult to get a people who will work in the same field for years, in this situation the three felicitators have worked in the field for more than 35 years.
The life of media people are also same like labourers who work for 24 hours a day. Hence the government must sanction the demands put forth by the workers and provide security measures to them, he said.
Y Ramesh Rao, owner of Hotel Woodlands also participated as the chief guest. Rotaract Dinesh welcomed the guests and gathering.
