Mangaluru : Notorious rowdy Akashbhavan Sharan allegedly attempted to run over Mangaluru CCB police officers and successfully evaded capture. The incident, as per a case filed at Kavoor police station, transpired on the night of January 2 when Sharan, facing multiple criminal charges, was driving a car in Maryhill. In an attempt to escape, Sharan reportedly collided with the police vehicle and fled the scene.
Akashbhavan Sharan is implicated in numerous criminal cases, with 21 charges, including murder, attempted murder, rape of a minor girl, and hafta collection, registered against him in Mangalore and Udupi. In October of the previous year, the Karnataka High Court sentenced five individuals, including Renuka Prasad, to life imprisonment in the murder case of KVG Polytechnic College administrator Ramakrishna. Sharan, identified as an accomplice in the murder, escaped sentencing at the time as he was on the run.
Sharan is accused of orchestrating the 2020 murder of Surendra Bantwal while he was incarcerated. Released on bail at the end of 2022, he was rearrested in January 2023 for attempted extortion after stopping a scooter near Suratkal. Following four months in prison, he secured bail once again and went into hiding. Additionally, a case under the Arms Act has been filed against him.
