Udupi: District In-charge Minister Pramod Madhwaraj said a total of Rs 401 crore has been spent by the state government for development works in Udupi Assembly constituency.
Speaking to reporters on Monday, the minister said that Rs 320 crore is released for KUDCEMP second stage and the Cabinet approval is given to the works sanctioned.
Upgrade of water supply has been allocated Rs 101.2 crore while Rs 185 crore has been reserved for underground drainage works, the proposed reservoir at Shimbra will take Rs 33 crore.
He said that the Udupi municipal area is broadly divided into eight sewerage zones and the works will be taken up in two phases. The first phase include Zones one to six, which comprises Udupi town, Kinnimulki, Kannarpady, Kadiyali, Volakadu, Ambalpadi, Ajjarkadu, Thenkapete, Shiribidu and Kalsanka. It is proposed to provide new sewer network of about 142.60 kilometres. Phase Two would comprise of the Zones seven and eight.
He added that the Phase One project would include construction of five wetwells and reconstruction of three old wetwells including electromechanical works. A project is proposed to construct six sewerage lifting stations and 3.0 MLD capacity sewage treatment plant (STP) near Malpe and 3.5 MLD capacity sewage treatment plant at V P Nagara.
The phase one work will include the replacement of electromechanical equipment in 12 existing STPs near Nittur. The total land required for the proposed projects is 11.02 acre, while the availability of government land is 0.86 acre. About 10.15-acre private land needs to be acquired. The DPR will be finalised once the land is acquired.
Madhwaraj said that Rs 33 crore is released under CRF funds, Rs five crore for the construction and development of vented dams and small ponds and Rs 35 crore is sanctioned for Udupi under Nagarottana scheme to take up underground drainage and stormwater drains.
The minister said in association with Directorate of Urban Land Transport (DULT), Government of Karnataka, the upgrade of the bus stops at Udupi, Malpe and Manipal will be taken up, as 50% of the fund would be borne by Urban Development Department.
Madhwaraj also said that the timings for the remaining Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JnNURM) buses will be fixed by the RTO shortly. The KSRTC will be asked to apply for the routes on stretches in rural areas that do not have frequent buses.
The minister said that the integrated sport policy is expected to be announced in the forthcoming budget. A thorough study was undertaken before embarking upon the sports policy and he himself travelled states with separate sports policy. The policy should be robust and long lasting, he opined. He added that the feasibility certificates for the trawler boats would be given.
