Udupi : MLA Pramod Madhwaraj said that Rs 5.13 crore had been released between 2013 and 2015, to renovate churches and for construction of community halls for backward classes.
Speaking at a meeting, organised to discuss the problems faced by the community halls belonging to the backward classes, the legislator said that Rs 3.15 crore was released for the construct of 18 community halls during the year 2013-14 while Rs 2.98 crore was released during the year 2014-15 for the purpose.
He directed the officials to make use of the amount judiciously and also assured to hold talks with the minister concerned, if there was need for extra funds.
Rajya Sabha member Oscar Fernandes said that social justice should be ensured to all and added that Congress-led State government was doing exactly that.
The government is laying emphasis on providing education, health, food and employment, he said and added that the State was moving towards achievements and was claiming the status of one of the foremost developed states in the country, Fernandes added.
The Thonse Mogaveera Sangha was given Rs 30 lakh on the occasion. Apart from this, Ambagilu Rajaka Yane Madivalara Sangha, Chitpadi Devadigara Sangha, Kannarpadi Billava Sangha, Brahmavara Devadigara Sangha and Malpe Billavra Sangha were given Rs 25 lakh each on the occasion.
