Mangaluru : In a cheating case, Mangaluru rural police recently arrested an assistant professor of PES College of Engineering in the city.
He was identified as A P Manu of computer science department of the college. Police sources said the accused was working as assistant professor in the computer science department of Sahyadri Engineering College, Adyar, Mangaluru from 2009 to 2017. During this period, he has got a financial assistance of Rs. 7.5 lakh from the college to do his PhD from IIT-Allahabad and the college has given him the salary during this period.
He has given an indemnity bond to the college for getting the financial assistance. As per the agreement, after his PhD, he should have returned the amount he owed. But he has violated the agreement and without giving notice or informing the college authority, he has joined PES College of Engineering at Shivamogga, sources said. For violating the agreement and misusing the financial assistance, Sahyadri Engineering College Principal Dr. Umesh M Bhushi lodged a complaint against him at Mangaluru rural police station and the police registered a case against the accused. On Thursday, Police arrested Manu and took him to the city for further interrogation.
