New Delhi : A diamond ring worth nearly Rs 8 lakhs was reportedly stolen from the room of an NRI couple from Delhi who had come for their honeymoon.
Dubai-based Ishan Garg was married to Manisha on February 18. On the wedding night, they came to stay in the seven-star hotel. Manisha was then wearing the diamond ring, but when the couple readied themselves to go out next morning, Manisha found her ring missing. She had taken it off at night.
Manisha’s mother, Nalini Khandelwal said when the couple went to their hotel room no 350, they found the hospitality staff eating leftover food inside their room.
Manisha said, she waited for nearly nine hours at the hotel lobby, but the ring could not be found. Manisha’s family however said they had been assured that the ring would be found within the next 48 hours.
Manisha and her family wanted to lodge a complaint with police on February 19 itself, but the hotel management persuaded them not to do so
Later, the family lodged an FIR with Sarojini Nagar police station.
Manisha and Ishan Garg’s families live in central Delhi’s Bengali Market area.. Isha Garg works in a multinational company in Dubai, and they were supposed to leave for Dubai on Thursday.
Police is interrogating two employees of the hotel.
Hotel Leela Palace today issued a statement saying “the hotel is committed to the safety and security of the guests and their belongings. The Leela Palace New Delhi is working with local authorities at the present time and looks forward to settling the matter soon.”
