Mangaluru : Former RSS leader and city based businessman Manjeshwar Padmanabha Kamath passed away on Sunday morning (December 20), at his residence. He was 90.
He is survived by two daughters and a son Mohandas Kamath, who is employed in Kuwait.
Kamath was engaged in various businesses like logistics and transport, fisheries, milk powder, areca, oil and beverages.
He was one of the founders of the Dakshina Kannada district unit of BJP, and is said to have played a major role in establishing the party base in Manjeshwar. During the dark days of the Emergency, he was engaged in the resistance movement and was imprisoned at Kannur jail for over one year.
He was also formerly a trustee of Madanantheshwara Temple, Manjeshwar.
