Mangalore: Finally, some action seems to be in the offing against rash driving by bus drivers at a time when over speeding and negligent driving has claimed several lives.
Speaking at the transport adalat held at the RTO office, Regional Transport Officer Mallikarjuna said action would soon follow against rash driving by bus drivers. He said a sticker bearing the phone numbers of RTO and the police will be pasted at the back of all buses so that pedestrians or motorists can immediately register a complaint. He said this drive will be initiated in November, wherein the complainant and the erring bus driver and owner will be summoned and those found guilty will be booked.
To a query from Nagarika Hitharakshana Vedike President Hanumantha Kamath said that permits have not been given to the KSRTC which has sought permits on several routes on the pretext of DM Notification, he requested the RTA to grant permits to those buses which do not come under the DM notification.
An appeal was made by former deputy mayor Judith Mascarenhas to ensure strict implementation of seats reserved for senior citizens and handicapped.
On complaints of frequent honking near school and hospital zones, The RTO directed the inspector to suspend the license of the erring drivers.
