Mangaluru : In a bid to pay befitting tributes to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his 143rd birth anniversary, Headquarters, Coast Guard District (Karnataka) organized a function at Panambur on 31 October 2018.
The event was supported by Rotary Club Moodbidri. Enthusiastic participants took part in 10 km run organised as a mark of celebrating the 143rd birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Mr. Lal Goel, Chairman of Organ Donation India Foundation flagged-off the “Run for Unity” program at Panambur Beach.
The event was co-ordinated by Dy Comdt Deepika Dhiman and in her welcome speech she highlighted the role of Sardar Patel in the freedom movement of India and unification of 500 princely states post-independence. She added that “Sardar Patel has and will always be seen as a symbol of unity.”
The route for Unity Run of 10 Km was introduced to the volunteers by Commandant RK Sharma. In his introductory speech he said that Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel is widely embraced as India’s Man of Iron, Integrity and of Integration. As a first Home Minister and Deputy Prime Minister of Independent India, Sardar Patel is credited with integrating a united India at the time of Independence.
The Commander Coast Guard Karnataka DIG SS Dasila, TM in his welcome speech highlighted the contribution of Sardar Patel in Indian history. Commander said that Run for Unity is the focal point for numerous community and unity-building initiatives that harmonize and celebrate the unity in diversity of India. Mr. Lal Goel highlighted that each year’s Run for Unity has showcased initiatives that are integral to Nation Biuld-up vision of harmonizing the nation through synergies, and broadening the public horizons by learning and experiencing more of India and all it has to offer.
Dr. Ramesha, President Rotary Club Moodbidri appreciated the efforts of Mr. Lal Goel, Chairman of Organ Donation India Foundation, the Commander, Coast Guard Karnataka, DIG SS Dasila, TM and thanked all the Coast Guard service personnel including civilian employees who participated in the Unity Run and made it successful event.
Post completion of Unity Run Integrity Pledge was read to all the volunteers and participants by Commandant Satwant Singh. The function was culminated with singing of Vande Mataram
