Udupi: In a freak accident on Wednesday night (February 1), a policeman lost his life when a private car rammed into the bicycle he was riding, and fled the site. The mis-hap took place at 9-15PM(night)on NH 66(former NH17) near Udyavara, a few kms away from here.

The deceased is identified as Varadaraja working in local SP’s special squad. He was on duty when the car hit and killed him, after critical injuries.

A resident of Kannarpady( Jaya Poojary) spotting the injured policemen, informed the traffic control room. Constable Satish with David and Arun rushed to the venue, and took Varada to Hi-Tech hospital, where the latter was pronounced as dead.

Udupi police have registered a case against the runaway car and owner(or driver), to get at he crime roots.
