Mangaluru : UT Khader minister for urban development and housing said “Let us take corrective measures to make our city beautiful. Later, we may think of upgrading the city corporation into BMMP. I will discuss the proposal with all stakeholders and take a decision on it,”
Speaking to the reporters Khader said his priority will be to provide houses for all poor families. The annual income Rs 32,000 ceiling mandated in the rural housing scheme is very less. As a result, many actual beneficiaries are not able to avail the scheme benefits. Hence, we have plans to increase the income ceiling to Rs one lakh. A decision will be taken after holding discussion with officials. However, the proposal will have to be cleared by the cabinet,” he said.
He said the rural housing scheme benefits should also be extended to APL families. The government provides houses below 700sqft measurement under the scheme. APL families, who are very rich, may not apply for it. Hence, the scheme can be extended to APL families too, Khader said.
“Being a minister in the coalition government I have more responsibilities. I will seek suggestions from experts and discuss with officials before implementing city development programmes. I will respond to people’s demands positively and take initiatives without delay.
On a proposal mooted by the previous government to upgrade Mangaluru City Corporation into Bruhat Mangaluru Manahangara Palike (BMMP) in lines of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), Khader said his priority is to solve all existing problems in the city.
Replying the Congress with many MLAs are upset for not being inducted as ministers, Khader said, “The Congress high command is capable of solving all such political issues. There is no threat to the coalition government.”
