Kasaragod : The Travancore Dewaswom Board which looks after the administration matters of historic pilgrim centre of Sabarimalai in Kerala, has announced that Rs. 2.50 lakhs each would be paid the bereaved families of the dead pilgrims in a stampede that occurred at Pellamedu on January 14 this year, while returning home after viewing the ‘Makara Vilakku’ (Light of Makara Sankramana).
Hundreds of pilgrims from Karnataka and other Southern States perished in the dusk time stampede on way down the holy shrine.
Only 4 died from Kerala and their close relatives will get on April 6 (Wednesday), their Compensation amounts in Ernakulam, Palakkad DC Office and the Tirurangadi Taluk office of Malappuram, board said.
The other states will receive compensation (relief) funds through their respective revenue departments, the same sources indicated.
