Bangalore :Karnataka Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda today greeted renowned poet, playwright and research scholar Chandrasekhar Kambar who won Jnanpeeth Award, the highest literary award in the country.
In his greetings, Mr Gowda said “by winning the award, Mr Kambar has made the state proud. It was most deserving award for a personality of his stature.” Hundreds of people, including Kannada writers, poets and critics visited Mr Kambar to greet him and wish him all the best in the future also.
Mr Kambar was selected for the Jnanpeeth Award for his overall contribution to literature. He was the sixth literary figure from the state to win the award. Kuvempu, Da Ra Bendre, Shivaram Karanth, Masti Venkatesh Iyengar, V K Gokak, U R Ananthmurthy and Girish Karnad were other noted personalities from Karnataka who had won the same.
Mr Kambar is also a member of the Karnataka Legislative Council.
