Madikeri: Hindu outfits boycotted the peace meeting called by the district administration to discuss about the celebration of Tippu Jayanti. As the Tippu Jayanti is facing major objection from Madikeri region the district administration had called for a peace meeting in which DC, SP, DFO and leaders of various organisations were present, at DC office on Monday.
Muslim organisations have requested the administration to provide security for the peaceful celebration of Tippu Jayanati.
ADC Sathish Kumar initially sought the cooperation of both the parties for the peaceful celebrations which has been announced by the government.
Manu Mutthappa, district BJP President said that the government is acting against the feelings of district people. If the government wants to please the minority then let spend the money on minority programmes which is being spent on Tippu Jayanati.
“If any undesirable incident takes place in the district then district administration and the government will be held responsible,” he said.
Swamy Vivekananda Janaseva Sangha President Ganesh said that though people are opposing to celebrate Tippu Jayanti, the government is wasting money in lakhs for the celebrations. Last year also many undesirable incidents took place amid tight security and the government spent Rs 34 lakh.
During the heated discussion saffron outfits boycotted the meeting and Deputy Commissioner Dr Richard Vincent D’Souza requested the gathering to cooperate with the government and to celebrate Tippu Jayanti in a peaceful manner.
City Congress President K U Abdul Razak said that instead of inviting the people for the celebrations let the district administration officials solely celebrate the Tippu Jayanti.
The meeting concluded with the decision to celebrate Tippu Jayanti with toght security all over the district on November 10.
