Mangalore : A dharna was staged in front of DC office in Mangalore on January 30, Wednesday to urge the government to name Mangalore airport at Bajpe after Veerarani Abbakka of Ullal. The protest was organised by the Veerarani Abbakka Utsava Samithi, Ullal.

Addressing the protestors,  K Jayaram Shetty, former MLA and honorary President of the Samithi, said this was the opportune time to name the airport after Rani Abbakka, now that the airport has got international status.

He also stated that the organization has already appealed to the administration and airport authorities regarding the longstanding demand. He also claimed that communal tension in Ullal area has reduced to a significant extent ever since Ullal Abbakka Utsav is held.

Ravindra Shetty of KJP, Dinker Ullal, Secretary of Abbakka Samithi and others were present.
