Mangaluru: A team of police and revenue officials on Friday raided a place in Sajipa Munnur village in Bantwal taluk and seized two lorry loads of illegally extracted sand.
On a tip-off, the team, led by Bantwal Tahsildar Jane Mary Tauro and Probationery Assistant Superintendent of Police, Bantwal, Haky Akshay Machindra, raided the place and found that the sand was being extracted from the river base illegally.
Apart from two lorry loads of sand, the team seized a mechanised boat and an empty lorry. The value of the seized property was around ₹10 lakh, the police said. The Bantwal Town Police have registered a case against two persons who were getting the sand extracted using labourers. The police have also named the lorry owners as the accused.
